Occupation unclear

  The entry is for a James Mason head 30 in Gorton Lancashire b South Pathewin Common

ca. 1841. Spouse is Sarah 40 b Milton Abbot Derbyshire.

  Ancestry gives the reference as: Piece 3982, Folio 123, Pg 2 (at least I was right with the page number!)

I see that in 1881 the family was still at the same address (Hyde Rd, Gorton) - James now a "coal dealer": RG11/3904/57/57.

The only things I can make it say are "Currier", or maybe "Carrier"

If you look at the page though nearer the top there is someone who is a Cooper and his wife is a Coopers wife and the C is entirely different

I did see that, candleflame, but there are some other Cs on the same page and adjacent ones that look very similar, obviously the writer wasn't too fussed with consistency

 So, general consensus is 'Currier'

Page 6 has a similar one and that looks like currier I have to say. Perhaps the enumerators hand was tired  on page 2 and recovered by page 6:)
