TalkingScot website
« on: Saturday 04 February 12 18:49 GMT (UK) »
I've been unable to access the TalkingScot website for approaching 3 weeks, the consistant error message being -

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 5940213 bytes) in /home/16095/talkingscot/www.talkingscot.com/public_html/forum/includes/acm/acm_file.php on line 430

Does this mean that TalkingScot is defunct ?!

TalkingScot is not defunct. It is having technical difficulties with the forum. The problem is being worked on in the background and it is hoped to be back up and running properly soon.

The problem is intermittent for most people. Try at different times of day and you may be lucky. Some people are not having the problem at all.

Hi Kirkmichael

Is there is any particular reason why the topic is headed up 'ScotlandsPeople' when the discussion is regarding problems with the TalkingScot site?

A workaround that seems to work to access the TalkingScot forum while it is not working as it should, is to go to the FAQ page first. Then you should be able to go to the forum from there.

That is good to know. I've had a break from genealogy so presumed the TS site was now out of comission. Good to read that is not the case.
Looking for Hugh Marr and Mary Drummond.

I've been able to access it through the FAQ link all last week until today, when i haven't been able to get on at all.

Yes, you are right, the route into the TalkingScot forum via the FAQ page is no longer working. It too is producing the 'fatal error' message.

For those who have the 'log me in automatically' box ticked, there is no problem, the forum is there working as normal.

There is now more urgent work being done in the background to resolve these problems, and the TS Admin Group hopes to have the site back to normal as early as can be done. Unfortunately this is not an overnight job, so please bear with us, we are working on it.

In the meantime, keep trying to access the forum. The problem is intermittent (more off than on) for those who are not automatically logged on.

Nobody's password was removed from the forum side of things. The forum software is failing us just now. We hope to be back up and running soon.
