Korokoro Catholic Cemetery - Petone
« on: Saturday 04 February 12 08:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

I understand this cemetery was closed in 1957 to make way for the motor way and that there is now a memorial with the names of those buried there.
I would like to have a photo of this memorial - we have three of our family there.
Any suggestions of how to get this photo, or a volunteer to take it most welcome.
The names are:
Gaynor, Mary Magdalene bur 1931
Gaynor, James Philip Tracy bur 1952
Gaynor, John Luke bur 1935

Thank You
Jean

Hi, I have a photo of this memorial as my grandmother and great grandparents buried at that cemetery.

In addition I have a copy of a booklet put out by the Petone Borough Council covering the cemetery, location of graves and the procedures the Council went through in re-interring the bodies. This booklet, from memory, is available on loan through the NZSG.

PM me if you would like a copy of the photo.

Thank You Althea and DonL,

Will check to see if the booklet is available.

DonL - are the names visible on the memorial?
I will have to check - perhaps we have more there.

Regards
Jean

Hello -  I have not been able to lay my hands on the photos I took quite a few years back, but will keep, looking -  will  let you know when I have uncovered them.

From the little records I have there are quite a few members of the Gaynor family who were interred at this cemetery.

These are Plot 100 -  James GAYNOR d 29 Dec 1902; a 51; Mary Ann GAYNOR d 27 August 1932, age 78;  James Phillip GAYNOR (no date of death);
Plot 99 Leo Francis GAYNOR d 30 Dec 1921 age 41
Number156 Mary Magdalene GAYNOR and John Luke GAYNOR (no dates shown)

Trust this is of help.

Hi,

I am wondering where I can find a list of names of those that where buried in this cemetry. The relations I am looking for are Joesph Silva De Simas and Emma Jane Silva De Simas.

Hello -  according to the transcript I have a Mrs Joseph Silva who died 25 October 1911 aged 60 and Mr Joseph Silva who died 19 May 1920 aged 88 were originally buried in Plot number 110.

Their bodies are now interred in the communal grave and their names are on the memorial which has been erected at the site.

I too have/had family buried at this cemetery. Could you please advise the name of the book that all the burials are listed in if possible, and if anyone has any details on the burials for Michael & Ellen/Helen Carberry that too would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance
