Stripside, Denny, Scotland

I have a place of birth that simply says 'Stripside, Denny, Scotland'

Does anyone know where exactly that is or was.

Cheers.

Hi Fergie,

It's the area at the beginning of the road which leads up to Strathcarron Hospice and eventually past Carron Valley Reservoir and eventually to Fintry (B818).

I think it was Stripeside rather than Stripside.

Sent you a PM on the subject.

Anne

Yes I believe it was Stripeside as there was a Stripeside pit in Denny.

Strip(e)side is a fairly common place name in Scotland. In this context 'strip(e)' means a burn or small watercourse. I have occasionally come across (but naturally cannot find right now) such watercourses still known and mapped as 'Stripe of ....'
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Many thanks for the input folks.
And a great big thanks to Anne for emailing photos to me of Strip(e)side in days of old.
I must have passed the place hundreds of times without realising that in would one day pop up in my family tree.

My interest came about because somewhere away back in the mists of time, my mother told me that I had a relative in the Dennyloanhead area who was a district nurse named Ferguson. I could never find any trace of who this mysterious nurse Ferguson could be.
A few weeks ago I came across the name of an Elizabeth Kelly who I think was an aunt of my grandmother. Elizabeth was born (I think) in 1868 in Antrim. She married a John Ferguson (don't know where) and in 1910 they had a daughter called Lillias who was born at Stripside.

So all I've got to do now is find out if Lillias was a district nurse.  But maybe they had more than one daughter.

Questions, questions....never ending questions.  ;D

Och well Fergie,

Is doing all this research not good for keeping you out of mischief? (Or would chance be a fine thing?)  ;D

As you've no doubt seen for yourself now, there's not much changed along at Stripeside apart from the Motorway towering above it!

Fergy: there was also a Stripeside betrween Cambusbarron and St Ninians - almost certainly a piece of land that ran alongside the Pelstream Burn after it descended from the Gillies HIl, and ran parallel to the the road that became Weaver Row: a Gt Uncle of mine was born there.
