Edmund Baldwin abt.1785 - 1842

Hello,
My g g g grandparents were Edmund Baldwin (abt 1785-1842) and his wife Sarah (abt 1781 - 1858). They lived in Stibbard and the Little Ryburgh area.

I have a lot of information on their family at that time and subsequent to these dates, particularly down my line via their youngest son George (1822-1892) who married Susan Coppen (1827-1901) and who sometime between 1861 and 1871 moved to Horton / New Delaval in Northumberland to work in the coal mines.

Is there anyone with access to local records / registers who can go further back a generation or so than Edmund and Sarah?

IGI has an extracted record of an Edmund Baldwin ch. 11.6.1780 Norton, suffolk.

Father Edmund mother Mary.

Do you know where and when thier eldest child was born please as I cant see a marriage for them at the moment.

Thanks for replying. The information I have on the children of Edmund and Sarah is as follows.

Thomas - born 1808 -  The 1841/51/81 census give his birthplace as Walsingham which is just the registration district. The 1861 census (where he is listed as "Balding") looks like Weasingham - although it could be Weasenham. The 1871 Census says Weasenham which I think is more likely given the birthplace of the next two children (see below). Like you I have not found a Parish record on IGI on his christening.
Details of the other children are:
Richard - born Weasenham St. Peter. Feb 12th. Christened 17th. March 1811 (Died 1836?)
Sarah - christened 3rd December 1815 - Weasenham St. Peter
Elizabeth - christened  20th. June 1819 - Little Ryburgh
William - christened August 17th 1821 - buried 4th. September 1821 - Little Ryburgh.
George - christened 21st. December 1822 - Little Ryburgh.

The indications are is that they initially lived in Weasenham then moved on to Stibbard, Little Ryburgh.

Thomas's wife Sarah Ann Baldwin (nee ?) born in abt. 1814 was born in Testerton according to the census returns so they were possibly/probably married there.

 I've got the info on Edmund Baldwin ch. 11-6-1780 Norton, Suffolk and also another Edmund Ch. 19-6-1785, Haverhill, Suffolk so perhaps they originated from Suffolk but difficult to be certain without some evidence.

Hi Yokel,

Nice one. I didn't have that so thanks very much. Their first child Edmond (Edmund) was born some 9 months later and christened/baptised on 19th. August 1833.    (image 9 - little Ryburgh).

Searched FreeReg for a marriage of Edmund and Sarah  no luck

Hello Again,

Another possibility for the marriage of Emund and Sarah is set out in the accessible family tree section of a well known website. The actual image on IGI is on page 26/28 for Thursford Parish which is close to Stibbard, Little Ryburgh states:

Edmund Bolden of the Parish of Little Ryburgh ..... and Sarah Rix........of this Parish. Married .......this 23rd. February 1808.... etc. etc.
There are no clues from witness names.

I'm not convinced. The name Bolden is clearly written and unless there is a transcription error then one has to be a bit sceptical. From what I can determine non of the alternative idioms of "Bolden" is anything like " Baldwin" and vice versa and the derivations are completely different. However given the location, Edmund from Little Ryburgh and the possibility of an entry error I suppose it needs to be kept in mind.

Any thoughts?
