Meliden Parish Records
« on: Thursday 02 February 12 13:45 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have Meliden Parish records....near Prestatyn? I'm trying to locate the birth of Robert Conway c. 1750........he was married in 1773 in Llanasa parish to Mary Edwards.
I have Llanasa records and am mapping out the various Conway families of the area.......are there other Conways in the Parish of Meliden? Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve

it might be worth you having a look here:

It seems that Jill has done a fair bit of transcription of the Conways - long list.

I have looked at Vol 2 Meliden Parish Registers which covers Baptisms for the years 1716 - 1783.
There is a Robert Conway but he was baptized 25 Jan 1726 the son of John & Margaret and there was also a burial of Robert Conway son of John on 19 Feb 1728
Other Conways were John bap Nov 1721 son of John & Margaret of Prestatyn but buried 17 Nov 1721, Henry bap 30 June 1723 son of John & Margaret, John bap 3 Jan 1724 son of John & Margaret.
Then there is Paul bap 25 Jan 1729 son of Thomas & Catherine, Winifred bap 18 May 1732 daughter of Thomas & Catherine but buried 05 Mar 1733.

Sorry , but there was nothing around the 1750 date.
Regards - Margaret.

Thanks for looking Margaret!....I'll have to look in another parish...thanks also for the other Conway info....it's probable that they're extended family....My David, Robert's son, was married in Llanasa 1802 but all the children are baptised in Meliden so I was hoping Robert might be from there.

Hi again

I seem to recall that the only Robert Conway baptism  circa 1750 that I saw on the Clwyd names link that I gave was in Llanrhaeadr yng Nghinmeirch. I think the parents were mentioned as well.

It's a fair way from Melidan but it might be worth investigating.

I saw 2 possible Roberts in the St. Asaph records on the list...which seemed far but is only 6 miles away.....but at this point it's guess work! Seeing as the Llanasa records go back to 1600 I had set my heart on them being within the parish....but on the whole it's really satisfying to get this far, especially on the direct Conway ancestors. I know of 2 other people who have Robert as an ancestor so maybe one of us will turn up with something eventually  ???
