KENNETH MACKAY
« on: Wednesday 01 February 12 21:00 GMT (UK) »
Help. Im not sure where to turn to but Im looking for a Kenneth Mackay from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland that apparantly moved to Canada in the early 1900's. Rumour has it he went to Manitoba first before moving to Vancouver wheer he died young.  He apparantly married and possibly spent some time in the USA. He was born about 1888. Sorry the information is vague but its about all I know about him. As I said. Help.

Can you provide his parents names as may make it easier to find him on marriage/death certificates.

Kenneth Mackays father was called Angus Mackay (born 1839 on the Island of Lewis, Scotland) and his mother was called Christine or Kirsty Martin (born 1850 on the Island of Lewis, Scotland). They married in October 1875 in Carloway, Isle of Lewis. This is the area they lived in.

Hope this helps.

Thanks VBAIN for the info.

Ive found a Kenneth Mackay in the 1930 New York Federal Census, Manhattan Borough. He is there with an Agnes Mackay, Martin Tait and a Donald Mackay. Any idea of how I can check the census free of charge?

Rudhach.

Some local libraries subscribe to Ancestry. I would check with your local library to see if they subscribe.

I have checked for a death in BC but haven't been able to find one for him.

I also checked the census but couldn't pin him down there either. Mc/MacKay is such a common name.  You can look at 1911 census at
http://automatedgenealogy.com

you can check for death at
www.familysearch.org

You may be able to see something that I missed.

You can find a transcript of the 1930 census for free at familysearch.org ... the image is not available but there is some info on the transcript.
