Family from Hamilton
« on: Tuesday 31 January 12 22:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have not been able to find any connections from my Grandad John Haley 1922-1987.  His mother was Elizabeth McNamee (1890-1976) and his father was unknown although he was given his surname of Haley.  Elizabeth married Frank McKain (dates unknown). I have a little information about his mothers family but have not been able to find out anything about when Elizabeth married Frank. My grandad moved to Hinckley, Leicesterhire but his family remained in Hamilton.  My grandad had an adopted brother Gerald.

Thanks in anticipation.

Nicola

Hi Nicola

Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk have a likely marriage for an Elizabeth McNamee and a Francis McKain in 1927 - not sure where as I haven't narrowed down the area on the general search. Also, note the spelling on Elizabeth and Francis (v. Frank).

Do you have a copy of your grandfather's birth certificate to see who registered the birth?

Hi Nicola, don't know if this is much help, was brought up in Hamilton and there was a family lived at the bottom of the road, their name was McKain, I was at school with the two boys of the family, one was called Frank, he would be around 52/53 by now. He lives in Glasgow now and haven't seen him for a while, unfortunately their dad whose name was Gerald was killed in an accident when they were very young, after reading your post I did a search for their dads birth records and there wasn't any, so I am assuming and I could be very wrong that their dad was your granddads adopted brother and was born with a different surname and this was changed to McKain after he was adopted, hence no records of a Gerald McKain.

Thanks for your reply  :)  It's always nice when messages pop up randomly... :)

Gerald was my Granddads adopted brother, I don't know if he was adopted from a family member or from a friend of their mum's.  Also my granddad wasn't the older Frank McKains son...

Thanks again.

Nicola
