Margaret Broa (Broe) born 1883

Trying to trace immigration data (thought to be 1892), and English family records.

Thought to be b England 1883. She married William Martin in Elgin, Ontario around 1905, first child Donald Albert b 1907. Marriage cert says 'Broa'. Family history says 'Broe'.

On the 1891 census for Athens Village Leeds South there is a Margaret Barr, 10, b. England as an adopted daughter to Jane Slack, 59, b. 1832 Ontario, widowed.  On the 1901 census Jane is living by herself.

The birth of Albert Donald's younger brother, William Harold was registered in 1909 and the mother's maiden name was spelled Brough.  It stated a marriage took place 1906 at Lyndhurst.

Marriage on Jan 9, 1906 Lyndhurst between William Martin, b. Morton Ont. s/o Albert Martin and Jane Perrin to
Mary Brol, 21, b. Westport, living Westport d/o John Brol and Annie Brol.

Margaret's death in 1921 doesn't show any parentage, only that they were born in  England.  It looks like her birth in England was filled in as Oct 1882?

Have you played around with FreeBMD to try and find possible births?
There are 5 Margaret Brough's born between 1881 and 1885
There is a Dec 1882 marriage between John Joseph Broe and Ann Gilbert Hemsworth 9c 228
and a birth for Mary Catherine Broe June 1884 Hemsworth 9c 196
Sometimes this site is great for giving you ideas and then you see if you can find those individuals on the next relevant census.

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/ has her I think in 1901 indexed as "Marguerite Broc", DOB December 26 1882. In 1911, living with William and sons "Donald" and "Harold" her DOB is given as December 1883.

If that home child is her, "Mrs Lacy" was been involved with the Catholic groups bringing children to Canada. (Broe does seem to have Irish roots).

Also, there is a Board of Guardians record for her (Canadian archives, there are two sections to the home children search) which says she was taken into care from Birkenhead.  In 1897 a widowed Annie Broe, nee Kelly (father John Kelly) married William Edwards (familysearch) in Birkenhead.

Elgin County Genweb has a lot of information.
There is an Historical Society. It has a Tweedsmuir; (An Historical Organization that does cemeteries, families, etc.)
Also a genealogical Society branch.
And their stuff is free!!

Thank you everyone for your help. Family members had remembered the surname as Broe, and that she came with a party of 'young women' between WW1 and WW2.
This clears up those issues and gives a solid basis for some more research.

John Joseph Broe appears in the 1881 UK census as a 'licentiate of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons, Edinburgh. I  think that means he's a newly qualified doctor. So after he dies I can't see his family (moneyed to afford a doctor son) shipping his daughter out as an orphan.
