Ann(e) ELLIOTT/LEWIS/GILBERT/TREBY - Brixham
« on: Monday 30 January 12 15:56 GMT (UK) »
Help needed please for a long-standing problem!

My ancestor Ann appears to have had at least three marriages.  As far as careful research can tell, her brief history in Brixham is as follows:-

16 June 1805 baptised - d. of Thomas ELLIOTT and Amy nee KENNARD.

?? date - married ..........LEWIS, who then died leaving her a widow.  Apparently no children.

3 June 1831  married William GILBERT (batchelor); two daughters: Mary Ann bapt. 3 December 1831 and  Emma bapt. 13 April 1834.

1841 Census - Ann and two daughters living in Milton Street Brixham.  No William (possibly dead).

24 June 1846 - widowed Ann married Henry TREBY; two children: John William Tucker Treby 1848 - 1857 and Sarah Ann Treby born 1849.

1851 - 1871 Census - Treby family living in Milton Street.

1877 - Death of Ann Treby.

I need to find the marriage of Ann to Mr Lewis to confirm all this.  (An Anne Elliott married Peter MOORE in Marlborough in 1821 and an Anne MOORE married John LEWIS in Newton St. Petrock in 1828, but yet another marriage, miles away, seems to be stretching it a bit, especially as Ann was only 15 at the time!).

Any help/thoughts/advice please?

Thank you,
Melbell.

I cannot locate an earlier marriage for her - did the marriage to William GILBERT state that she was a widow?

Yes, sorry, I should have made that clear!  She was a widow, so Mr Lewis was dead by 1831.

Ann Elliott/Lewis/Gilbert/Treby was my great-great-grandmother via her daughter Sarah, how are you descended from her?

Dear Kevin

I apologise for not replying earlier.  (I have been away/unwell).

Ann is my 3 x great-grandmother, via her daughter Mary Ann GILBERT.

Have you done much research on this line?  Do you agree with what I have discovered?  Was Ann TREBY definitely Ann ELLIOTT?

It's great to hear from you.  If you think it worthwhile, please PM me about this research.

Thank you,
Melbell.
