Here is what I know.  Born in UK guessing around 1867.  Died in Australia before 1907.  One child that we know of Hannah Louisa Willcox born 1887 Australia.  Worked in Queen Victoria's household as a maid before coming to Australia.  Can't seem to find her immigration records, or death certificate.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have a marriage certificate for Hannah Louisa Willcox to David Edward Powell, at St Josephs church, Camperdown in NSW 1907.  On the certificate it states that Hannah's father was Henry Willcox, painter, whereabouts unknown and her mother was Jane Harrison, deceased. Hannah was a minor, 20 years old, living at Golden Grove. I have searched NSW BDM and other sites but am unable to find a birth certificate for Hannah or anything on Jane Harrison or Henry Willcox.  Could anyone advise where to next.  Thanks

How do you know Jane was born in England?

Have you considered that Jane may be her 2nd given name?

Where did you get the information she worked in the royal household?

Could you please type up ALL the information on the marriage and death certificates.  So often it is the small snippets of information that help.

The little information that we have on Jane has been handed down word of mouth apparently there was a bible that was lost.  Thanks.

At the start of this thread you asked for information about Jane Harrison. Do you have her death certificate, or know which state she was living in? That is probably the best option for clues as to her UK origins. The one other possibility is newspaper obituaries, if you know where she lived, and/or roughly when she died.

Thanks I will keep trying.  I am assuming she lived around Sydney as her daughter was 20 when she married in 1907, mother deceased, and her husbands family lived around there.  Have checked the Sands directory and in 1884, Willcox Henry, painter lived at Waterloo, but still can't find anything on Jane Harrison.

I think its time to think outside the square, as they say. So far it seems you are relying on Hannah's marriage certificte for data to go further. Do you have Hannah's death certificate? This should point you in the direction of her birth, and then hopefully a birth certificate.
Just checked the NSW indexes, and the only Hannah Louisa Powell in the deaths is in 1962, with father listed as William. Did she die in NSW?

Looking at the Death notices for Henry Wilcox. I wondered why there are 2 notices each with 2 children mentioned.

Could it be that Emily Lucas and Thomas Wilcox are from one "wife"

and Hannah Powell and Jack Wilcox from another "wife". (probably Jane)

Well done tedscout! You could be onto something. That could also account for the lack of marriage record seemingly, if Henry was already married when he met Jane Harrison. Lin!!!, I don't mean to offend but it could be a possibility.

Yes, I had thought of that but was thinking his second wife was after Jane.  I have tried to follow up on his sister to see if that lead anywhere, I think I have found her birth, marriage and death.  Jack doesn't show up, but he could be John, and I have tried the other two children but nothing.  The death certificate for Hannah in 1962 is our Hannah I haven't sent away for it as it has the father as William and mother unknown so I don't think it is going to be much help, if they didn't know her father was Henry.  Maybe something will come up with the registry for minors.

You could be right Lin. I only wrote them out in order they appeared in the paper.
