Through various means I have traced AHK as having been born in Colnbrook in 1793 or thereabouts. He married Ann Shaw in Rotherham in 1835 and died in Chesterfield in 1865. Any ideas about tracing his family/background in Colnbrook? I have had no luck in finding the name on lists , censuses or poll registers except for Elizabeth Knowles in Chesham in the 1841 census.

What was Anthony's occupation? do you have the 1865 death certificate?

There's an Anthony Knowles, Toll Collector, age 57 on the 1841 census, in Darley district, Derbyshire

When and where were his children born, and do you have them on census?

Found your man in Eckington district on 1861:

Sarah Chapman Head Widow age 29 born Eckington
Anthony H Knowles Father age 71 born Colnbrook ca1790  Book Keeper
Horace J Knowles Son age 25 born Sheffield   Colliery Clerk
John Hibbert Lodger age 21

No Knowles in St.Thomas's Church, Colnbrook PR's, at all. ???   No variations either.

Thanks for checking that, Steve.  It seems that most of that part of the family were non-conformists so I'm not sure if they will figure in PRs.......
