Thanks to agahdowey and hanes  teulu for the replies. It's a pity those birth, death and marriage notices rarely mention the word "tennis"!

A couple more "sightings" of a Peter Aungier

Freemans Journal & Daily Commercial Advertiser 31 May 1898
GOLF - Foxrock Club
The monthly competiotion for the club competition...Mr Peter Aungier was the winner with a net score of 72 (90 less, 18 handicap)

Belfast News Letter 21 November 1881
The Magistracy - the following have been appointed to the Commissioners of the Peace
COUNTY DUBLIN
Peter Aungier, Belcamp, St Doulogh's, Esq

Freeman's etc Jun 22 1882
The clerk reported that he had selected Mr Peter Aungier, J.P of Belcamp, St Doulogh's, County Dublin..... to fill the vacancy in the list of ex-officio guardians, ....

Two mentions (26 May 1881 and 24 May 1883) of him as a member of the "Fitzwilliam Club"

Not a sighting of Peter but a family link
Freeman's etc May 31 1877
DEATHS - Aungier, Mar 29, at the residence of her sister, Mrs Pilsworth, 30 Eccles St, Miss Alice Augnier, third daughter of the late Mark Aungier, of Lays, County Dublin, and sister to the late Peter Augnier.......

None of the tennis references I have found include any biographical date eg age. Perhaps the golf club (founded 1893), tennis club  or records of the Dublin Union (if available) might be worth checking out

regards

My mother was one of that Scully family.  Here are the facts I got from her long ago.
Peter Aungier was born 1858 at Olney, Westminister Rd. Blackrock , Dublin.  He married 1881 Julia Scully, daughter of the famous or infamous William Scully by his first marriage to Margaret Sweetman, born in Illinois in 1853.  They had 3 children, Charles b. 1881, Gertrude d.y. 1882 and Julia b. 1884.  Her Scully family were living in Priory Lodge, Blackrock at that time.  She was born 1895 and I often heard her speak of Julia (Jun.) as a friend.  Julia (Scully) Aungier died in 1947 at Greystones, Co. Wicklow.  Peter died in 1914 she said but I could not find any documentation.  Was there some mystery about it ?  The Mary Peter was paying tennis with in 1879 seems to have been a sister as you suggest
