Peter Aungier played some lawn tennis in Ireland and England in the early 1880s, but it is very difficult to track down any concrete biographical information on him. That said, a 55-year-old Peter Aungier appears on the 1901 Census of Ireland, which states that he's living in Foxrock, married, a land proprietor and Roman Catholic. Also that he was born in Ireland. But it's virtually impossible to connect him to lawn tennis.
A Mary Aungier also appears in one or two draws for women's singles events at lawn tennis tournaments in the early 1880s. It seems likely that she was related to Peter, perhaps his sister (definitely not his wife).
A Google search for Peter Aungier tends to bring up Saint Peter's Church, which used to be located in Aungier Street, Dublin. That's not really a help. I believe Aungier, which sounds French, is an old Huguenot name.
Would anyone be able to provide or point to any concrete information on Peter Aungier's or Mary Aungier's origins and later life?
