Emigration to Pennsylvania by Welsh miners
« on: Friday 27 January 12 15:05 GMT (UK) »
Don't know where to post this so am starting here. I understand that lots of Welsh miners thought they would try their luck in the mines of Pennsylvania USA, can anyone tell me whether there exists a written social history of how things went? i.e. how families fared generally, rather than a history of mining. I'd be grateful for any information. Thanks, Pat W

Hi Pat - (I love that name!  ;D.....    Can you please advise in what area of Pennsylvania your people lived?  There are several items on line regarding a number of Welshmen who went to the Scranton, PA area in Lackawanna County.  Also, Carbondale had a large number of Welshmen -- very close to Scranton.  If you Google "welsh miners Pennsylvania" you will get some materials that may help you.  Pat

Thank you for your replies, I have just found them so my apologies for not thanking you all earlier.
Google very helpful. What's wrong with me? I should have done that myself!  Thanks again, Pat W
