Sunderland City Council have a web site "Locating a grave" http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2072 and City of Sunderland Municipal Cemeteries  http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1978 which has plans of all the cemeteries. Bishopwearmouth is at http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2205

Hi all,
I would like to renew my request for photos of my GGG Grand Parents' grave sites.  Does any body have a digital camera and would be prepared to go to the Bishopwearmouth Cemetery and take two photos of their respective grave sites please, and email them to me in Australia.  You could send me a personal message via this site and I will provide my email address so you can attach them to an email for me .... please anybody? Their graves are located at:
1: Elizabeth Cassidy 58 years Ward 9 Section a, Grave No 1286 unconsecrated Ground
2: Peter Cassidy 70 years Ward10 Section a, Grave No E/1651 unconsecrated Ground
If the Tombstones are not there just the bare ground photo of each site with some background would do.  Thanks.
Regards
Bob Cassidy

Bob,

I have been through such a search for a grave in Sunderland myself, and the graves are not easy to locate on your own, even if the reference number is known. Especially if there is no gravestone.

There is, however, an excellent "cemetery hotline" service available, and they located the grave and marked the location, and we arranged to meet at the cemetery where they showed my the grave. Excellent service !

The number is (UK number) Cemeteries Office on tel : (0191) 553 1687 where the staff will be pleased to assist you. This is probably your best bet for a result by speaking to them direct.

Best of luck with it all.

A very big thank you to Spec who took the photos of the gravesites I was looking for.  Also to all those who posted replies.  I now have a set of photos showing the sites and surrounds for which I will always be grateful; thanks so much.  It's great to be a member of this online community whose members are so helpful.  Again many thanks.
