It has not been possible to find the birth certificate, the GRO suggested that as they could not locate the registration that it was possible that it was never recorded. The family were hoping that the baptism could be found which might reveal the birth father's, but it suspected that if the baptism was found it would only record the mothers name.

Linda are you saying that the two dates you found are not linked?

is it possible the age is mistranscribed in 1901?

On 1871 there's a Joanna Palmer b Merther, Cornwall in 1865. Daughter of Francis as woodman b St Cleemnts anD Elizabeth a dressmaker of Merther

This would make her much nearer her husband's age

[Apologies in advance if I spell Merther wrong at points - being Welsh my mind types Merthyr]

She's still at home in 1881, transcribed on Ancestry as SUanna. Not found her yet on 1891

I have passed on the information and the family are very grateful and pleased with what you have found for them.
It has been accepted that they may never find out why Joanna went to Berkshire to have Reginald, who the birth father was and who she was staying with during her pregnancy. Unfortunately as a result of Joanna not being located on the 1891 census they may never find this out.
