MITCHELL - WINLATON
« on: Thursday 12 May 05 23:30 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on the family of my g.g.grandparents.
My g.grandmother, Sarah Ann's marriage cert says she was born in Winlaton, Durham - year would be circa 1875.
Father Thomas Mitchell, mother Sarah  McGear? (or similar). I know Sarah Ann had two  sisters but I don't know if there were other siblings. The family emigrated to Australia in the 1870/80, where they settled in Newcastle, New South Wales.

hi
Do you have any more information at all?   What was Thomas' occupation?   Names of the sisters?    Any snippets will help.  Presumably they did not go to Australia until after Sarah Ann's birth in 1875.  There are some possible births on FreeBMD.  Have you looked at that?   It is not full coverage but might give some idea of names and dates.
We might be able to find Thomas in 1861 and 71 but without a bit more to go on it will be difficult to decide which one is correct.

I own Sarah Ann Mitchell's marriage certificate and it was witnessed by Mary Ellen Mitchell, which I have presumed is her sister. Her marriage was in 1896 so she has emigrated somewhere between 1975 and this date. I cannot find immigration papers for the family but have now found her, and her parents gravesites. I have applied for her parents death certs. and will also apply for hers. I also have a photo of her and 'both sisters' but as yet cannot find names????
