Bewick house Childrens home Gloucester
« on: Saturday 21 January 12 20:49 GMT (UK) »
I have been TRYING to find information on the Children home Bewick house, corner London road Denmark road at Wotton pitch when Mr. & Mrs. Evens was the house parents’ in 48-1950 everything has turned up a blank.
It was under the new founded Gloucester city children’s welfare office after the war under a Mr. Ramsey children’s welfare office.
All my enquires has met with classical information to be released in 80 years.
It would be nice to hear from some of the 35/40 lads that stayed there

Hi MikeTheBee

I'm one of the Townsend brothers that was there when you were. I'm John, would you happen to know what became of my brother, Geoffrey. We lost touch after leaving there and I'm not having much luck finding any traces of him. Inbox me with anything you might know.
Many thanks.
John T

Hi my name is Harry, I was in Bewick house until 1947, with my brothers John and Victor, our sisters were in the Limes girls home.I have today spoken to my friend Bill Beamish who was also at Bewick House he suggested maybe we should get a reunion going......with regard to your brother  Geoffrey I am afraid that I cannot help you, although I am into family history I would need more details.....are you local to the west country?   perhaps we could make contact......regards Harry White

Hi John Townsend
This is a nice surprise, its nearly 65 years ago I was aged 7 to 10 at Bewick house,  YES I well remember the two of you Geoffrey had a mop of blond hair a tall lad I think he went to Linden Road school.  You were dark and skinny and older than Geoff, something happened that made the home send you away “WHAT HAPPENED”  I remember the day you and Stanley left ! …  I don’t think Geoff left with you?
Do you have photos or in contact with any of the lads?
After you left I was sent to two remand homes 15 months,  then Porlock Borstal back to Kingswood 1 year Bristol to be assessed again for 3 years at the Cotswold approved school.
Are you living in or near Gloucestershire area can we meet up over a meal an a pint.
This is why I am posting on ROOTS to find out as much information and meet up with the lads at Bewick house again.
All the best mike R

Hi Victor thanks for your post.
I made a visit to my old school in Alvin street (now the city’s archives) about two years ago.
I must have not given the right information regarding Berwick house because I drew a blank.
 I will try again, thanks.
All the best mike
