Rochester/Chatham/Gillingham News any body researching that can help?
« on: Saturday 21 January 12 15:22 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather died aboard the Oriana in 1948. When I was small we looked at microfilm of the newspapers at that time and there was a photo of my grandfather. We have not got a photo of him and would like to somehow get a copy of the newspaper articles of the time including the photo.
I think the records would be in Kent/Medway and the British Library. Is anyone researching these records for themselves? I live too far away myself. I have found a list of dates etc from the Chatham News index, so I can point you in the right direction to dates.

Have you tried Gillingham Library or Medway Local Studies?  Being not quite sure who has what, I'd try the library first

The microfilms for Medway newspapers are held at the Archives in Strood http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/

Thank you for the information. Just before your replies though,
I have managed to get pdf copies through the British Library.
They do an online service, which I did not know about and came across by accident.
