Milton Lockhart House
« on: Friday 20 January 12 22:22 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help and tell me how I can find out the names of the staff who worked at Milton Lockhart House between the years between 1900 - 1911 &  1911 - 1915.  I'm trying to find out if my Grandmother was one of the tablemaids.  I found her on the 1911 census in London.  Her name was Jane Brown born in 1883 in Meadowflatt, Covington.  She received a bible on her marriage in 1915 from Lady Lockhart.
I tried to look up a valuation roll for Lanarkshire but believe they are not available.

Hoping someone can direct me to the right place.

Evelyn    ;)

They are available, they are just not available online.

But save yourself the trouble. The Valuation Rolls list the proprietor, the tenant and the occupier only; that is, the heads of household. They do not list the names of other family members, let alone servants.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Evelyn, what a lovely thing to have still for your Grandmother  :)

Was she working down on London by 1911? Did she marry local to Milton Lockhart House?

Milton Lockhart house was sold and removed brick by brick and now stands in Japan.
You may be interested in the bio General Sir William Stephen Alexander Lockhart Soldier of the Queen Empress.

He was David Blair's brother and there is quite a lot of info in the book about Milton.
Sir William was out in India and did not inherit it, but his son Murray did.

David and Clementina are buried in the family plot in Carluke.

Sounds like London Bridge  ;)

Just curious, why was Milton Lockhart House dismantled and re-constructed in Japan?
