Deva Mental Hospital Chester
« on: Friday 20 January 12 16:16 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can tell me how to access the Nursing Staff records for the Diva Hospital as both of my husband`s parents worked there for several decades. His father worked there from the 1930s to the 1950s. We are not certain how long his mother was employed there. She was a Ward Sister and his father was a Charge Nurse. Any information about the hospital would be great . Hope someone out there is able to help. Many thanks.
Aloha

It was Cheshire County Lunatic Asylum 1870 to 1921, then the County Mental Hospital 1921 to 1948, then called Upton Mental Hospital 1948 to about 1955. West Cheshire Hospital about 1965 to 1984. It is now the Countess of Chester Hospital, Liverpool Road, Chester, CH2 1UL. Records are available at Cheshire & Chester Records Office, Duke Street, Chester. http://archive.cheshire.gov.uk See http://tinyurl.com/828dkje

Hi, Oloha, I have a book written by Stan Murphy titled:
The Best is Yet to Be.  175th Anniversary History of the West Cheshire Hospital, with memories from the Moston and Manor hospitals.
Published by C.C. Publishing Chester.  ISBN Number 0 949001 27 9.  It was published in 2004.
There are many photographs of staff in the book and you may get lucky and find some of your family.
I picked the book up in a second hand bookshop, but I believe that Chester Library has a copy.  It would be worth phoning them and see if you can get an inter-library loan.  You might even find a copy still if you google.
Regards
Kathb
