James Tune/Toon(e)/Town(e)
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 10:37 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I wanted to introduce myself first off as a newbie!  :)

I am searching for an ancestor who was born c.1620 in England (not sure where, the reason why I'm here) and emigrated to America (Farnham County, Virginia) c.1651. He was transported by a man called John King; he is listed on the headrights documents as James Town.

My family name is Tune, and as orthographic conventions were not yet standardised in the time period in question, his name was spelled Tune, Town, and Toone on various wills, deeds, etc over the duration of his life! Basically, I am searching for documentation of my 8th g-grandfather's birth in England.

I am completely new to family history research and currently live abroad in Hawaii, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 :)

So just to clarify. I am not searching for records in America, but, rather, records documenting James Toone (or any phonetic variation Tune/Town(e)/Toon(e), etc) in ENGLAND in the time period c.1620.

There are numerous records on the US side, much of which was compiled and catalogued by my cousin Gloria Tune - so if you search Ancestry, etc and see her name just know that I have all of that research. She is simply brilliant as a family historian!

What we are lacking is the connection to England. We know James Toone left England in 1651 aboard a ship as a headrights passenger for a man called John King, he was listed in the registry as James Town.

Any help in searching UK records for this person would be of inestimable value to our family line. I wish I knew from which County or Parish he hailed! I also wish I knew the details of the vessel he traveled on!

 :) :) :)

Just a thought here  8):

At the very bottom is an excerpt for a James Townes and Luke Billington. I am trying to document my line in England. So, if Luke Billington and James Tune knew each other in Virginia, could they have had ties in England? Are there any BILLINGTON family historians out there that could possibly shed light on the status of any James Tunes (Toone, Towne, etc) in Bucks?
