As I said - there are two (actually three) Leonard LOVEGROVEs so it's not easy to tell which is which, and not made easier by the Australian Birth Index which doesn't give exact dates for South Australian entries, nor parent names

The Leonard Lewis LOVEGROVE, age 96, in the TROVE announcement of 1916, is, I believe, the husband of Mary (Creed) LOVEGROVE  died 1881 at age 52.

As Essie shas already pointed out I think the  reference I found in the South Australian Register for a death in 1881 should read Mrs not Mr Leonard LOVEGROVE
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/43167400

Interestingly there is another Death Index entry:
Leonard LOVEGROVE, died 6 Oct 1892, aged 40 (b abt 1852)
Death Place:   Adelaide
Residence Place:   Point Mcleay
Registration Place:   Adelaide, South Australia, page 103, volume 205

Did Leonard marry twice (or even 3 times)??  Probably at least one of one of these is the Leonard who died in 1892.

Marriages S A
15 Apr 1882 at Strathalbyn Page 263, Volume131
Leonard LOVEGROVE
Father's Name:   John Lovegrove
Spouse Name:   Rebecca Keough
Spouse's Father's Name:   Robert Stanley
This lady dies in 1912 at Strathalbyn aged 87, and this marriage to Leornard LOVEGROVE appears to be her second marriage.  I note, though that she is not mentioned in the obit.

25 April 1889 at Poonindie (reg Flinders; page 375, volume 159)
Leonard LOVEGROVE
Dinah BUCKSKIN
This couple have a number of children so I would think it is not the right man.

1841 census has  a 'Linnard LOVEGROVE' , male servant, born in county, living at Slinford, Sussex which is about 4 miles from Horsham. At the same address 'Lutwick, Slinfold' is a farmer Thomas LOVEGROVE, his wife and children.  'Linnard' and another servant are living 'over the stables'.  Unfortunately no relationships shown on 1841 census.

1841 at Roughey Park, Horsham, Sussex
John Lovegrove, 65, farmer
Catharine Lovegrove, 63
Lawrence Lovegrove, 18
This address seems to be the same as the place mentioned in the 1916 obit as Leonard's birthplace.  Seems likely this is his parents.

Judith

My great great grandfather Leonard was the one who lived at Point McLeay & records showed he died aged 40...he married Dinah (Buckskin nee Ware)...Buckskin was the surname of her first husband...their son Frank Sr changed his name from Buckskin to Lovegrove by deed poll when he got married to Rose...he was one of the six children Leonard & Dinah had...one of their granddaughters is still living (Frank Sr's daughter)

Hello, just noticed this post!

yes Mary Creed arrived on the Elgin, birth date 18 march 1828 Ballinstona Uregare co Limerick. I know more about her early life and from what I gather, she has named one of her daughters after her sister and mother.  Sister Catherine and her mother was Margaret.

Thank you to all have contributed on this thread... I didn't realise she died in 1881.

Hi Crisane, where do I find the above register please?
Mary's father died in 1853, I'm prettys sure the first letter is telling her of her father's illness.
Thanks
Jenny

Ps... Just realised it was on trove, very doubtful the letters survive anywhere.
