Bernard Oscar Graves b1885
« on: Friday 13 January 12 14:18 GMT (UK) »
Bernard Oscar Saunders Hayward Graves, to give him his full name, was born 29 Oct 1885 in Camberwell, London. I have found him in the English 1891 and 1901 census records living in London, but then all I know is a 'hint' on Ancestry that he may have emigrated to the US. I can find nothing on the Ellis Island site, but there is a WW1 draft registration card 1917-1918 in the name of Bernard Oscar Graves.
This may not be my ancestor, but I would very much appreciate if someone out there can check the details for me please.
Many thanks  ..  Peter Baker

Was his father S.H. Graves?  If so, it looks like he sailed to New York in 1911 and had been in New York previously.

The WWI Draft Registration card has the same birth date that you have, and it says he was a citizen of Great Britain.  He was living 2017 Caton Ave., Brooklyn, New York and married to an Evelyn M. Graves.

His WWII Draft Registration Card is here with a birthplace of London:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F36N-ZQM

On www.italiangen.org, there is an entry in the death index for Bernhard Graves, who died at age 58 on 9 Aug. 1943 in Queens.

On www.fultonhistory.com, there is a notice in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle from 1943 about Masonic services being held for Bernard O. Graves on August 11 at New York and Brooklyn Funeral Parlors, 187 S. Oxford Street.  Also on that site is a mention in the Long Island City NY Star Journal under a column entitled Queens Wills about the estate of Bernard Oscar Graves, who died 9 Aug. 1943.  The estate was over $10,000 and was left to widow Evelyn Maud Graves, 33-28 81st Street, Jackson Heights.

On www.ellisisland.org, if you do a search for just Bernard Graves born 1885, two of his voyages should come up for you.
