....
On the 1901 census, I found a family listed under Carlan, but I can't be sure it is them:
Patrick Carlan 1857
Mary 1858
Andrew 1886
John 1889
James 1892
Mary 1894
Patrick 1896
It fits, but like I said I can't be sure it is them....

is that in Ireland or Scotland ?

Neither do I, and honestly, I'm not even sure where I got that info, it was scribbled on a paper I just found, had put the whole thing to the side for a while... Although I assume I would have checked when I found this info....  I also tried to check passenger records, but went thru thousands of images and found nothing....

Would you have any idea how people got from Ireland to Scotland in those days? There probably aren't too many records I would guess...

all part of of the UK in those days - so no passenger lists or immigration records

The place for Scottish records is the Scotlands people website - it's a pay website

Ya, I may have gotten it from there, bought credits at some point... Can't afford to buy more just to see maybes though....

I spent so many hours searching the Canadian passenger records, they are un indexed, had to read page by page of handwritten lists, and found nothing..

So, in the end, I can't be sure of any birth record, can't be sure of any census, can't find any immigration records, and any info I have from when she was already in Canada tells me nothing of her time/family in Ireland/Scotland...
Hopefully the cert will lead me in the right direction...

Hi there, we seem to be related  :) my father's great grandmother was Mary Anne Carolan. I have her birth certificate. Would love to talk further in the hopes that we can compare information and learn more about our history.
