Look up request please at Preston Records Office.

Has anyone the time to look up the brirth of James Norcross born 1844 ish

I have his marriage cert in 1866 and he is aged 22. I sent for a Birth cert at the cost of £9 and it is 13/12/1843 but is the wrong James Norcross.

I am only new at this but I cannot find another......more experienced people please help? ;)

If you have his marriage certificate what is his father name

Parents are Jospeh Norcross and Margaret Entwistle

Okay ,so you know his parents names and they married also 1835 Ribchester,



and their daughters birth  Mary was registered Preston 1841

I also have his death certificate died 1881 aged 37....

again putting birth around 1844....so why cant I find it???

Hi,

Although Civil Registration was introduced in 1837 it did not become a fineable offence if you did`t register the birth of a child until 1874.  Prior to that the onus was on the Registrars to seek them out.  Perhaps due to circumstances they just never got around to it. 

Many believed that Baptism was far more important.
