I am trying to identify a place of birth and names of parents for my 5x Great grandfather William Jamieson. He enlisted in the "12th Regiment of Foot" during the 1780s and served in Guernsey where he married Ann Weise or Wise. He got into some trouble there and was sent to the Savoy Prison where he was enlisted in the NSW Corps. He was sent to NSW in the Third Fleet in 1791 with his wife and new son.
Records found by others have him born in Suffolk in 1746 but this does not tally with birth and baptism records.
I was wondering if somebody could direct me to some online military records, or even marriage records for Guernsey that may contain some other more detailed information about parentage, location of birth etc.
Any other advice would be welcome too.
