Burial Details - Esther Hind -Lincolnshire
« on: Monday 09 January 12 02:17 GMT (UK) »
My great Grand-mother Esther HIND nee Jenkinson, born in 1863, died in 1906 when I think she was living at Folkingham, Lincs.
The only record I can obtain is as follows: District:Lincoln, County:Lincolnshire, Volume: 7a Page:298
As I live in Australia it is very hard to access more precise records.
I would like to know on what date she died, and where is she buried.
Thank you.

Hi darib

Welcome to rootschat  :)

The burial took place at Grantham Cemetery on 11th August 1906. Esthers age was 43.  I am afraid that you will need the death certificate for details of date of death, address, cause and informant.  English death certificates don't give much information.

Certificates are available from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ and cost £9.25

Hi darib :)

Although there were no great distances involved, she was in Folkingham (Bourne district) in 1901, died in Lincoln and was buried in Grantham.  Seems a bit odd really.  Then in 1907, Joseph and four children sailed to Oz. :)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi darib,

I have checked with Grantham cemetary and the only information on their records are that Esther was buried on 11/Aug/1906 aged 43 Plot 31X Section 14.But it did say the Parish of Pointon which is near Bourne as Geoff has previously mentioned.I will be in Grantham library tomorrow afternoon and will check in the Grantham Journal(our local paper) and see if there is any information in it and let you know.

Kathy

Thanks so much for all the info supplied. Hopefully I will be back in Lincolnshire next year, so may be able to find her grave.
I have always wondered where she was buried. Her daughter, my grandmother sailed to Aust aged just 16 with her 14 year old brother in early 1906, not long after she arrived, she received word that her mother was dead, and the following year her brother was killed.
Fortunately later her father and other siblings, apart from two sisters also emigrated to Oz.
Once again, a big thank you !

Geoff thought it strange that she although she lived in Folkingham, she was buried in Grantham, and must admit I went searching in the Folkingham cemetery.
However her husband's widowed sister, had a business in Grantham, and was quite wealthy, and she often had some of the children to live with her, and so maybe she arranged the funeral ?

Hi darib,

I have had a look on Grantham Journal microfilms and could not find any mention of Esther death or burial sorry :( :( :(.
As a matter of interest what was your Grandads widowed sisters name and what business did she run in Grantham?

My G/grandfather's widowed sister was Susan Mettham, she owned a Fish & Game shop, situated where Marks & Spencers in Grantham now stands. Somewhere during my research, I found her Obituary in the Grantham paper - she died in 1938.

Following my grandmother's death in 1985 in Aust, I found mention in her papers, of how she lived with her, and a very vivid description of the shop.
Susan is buried at Grantham, as are my grandmother's sisters, Annie Hind and Sarah (Sally) Pile and Sarah's baby son. I have never been to Grantham cemetery, but it is now on my "to do" list, now that I have learnt where my G/grandmother lies. Thanks to all
