John Wood and Blanche German
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information about the birth records of either of these people.  John born in 1876 and Blanche born in 1885.  Both born in Canada.  Would appreciate any help

Hi,

To narrow it down to an area of Canada - it looks like they were born in Ontario.  Blanche is Lena Blanche.

1911 census in St. Mary's Ontario - each say birth place is Ontario:

If you have access to Ancestry Library Edition (free if your library subscribes), Ontario birth records are there.  You can see the scanned images of the registers.    Sorry, I don't have a subscription at the moment, so I can't check for you.   Hopefully, someone else can...

For transcripts, you can check the familysearch site.

Also,  see the St. Mary's Protestant Cemetery...  They are buried here.  Perhaps the tombstones list dates of birth...

This is it.  The people I have been looking for.  I am looking for a birth certificate for both and a death cetificate a for both.  I am just about finished the William Wood family.  Just have  Margaret, Thomas and Mary to finalize.  Can you send me any information about them.  Thanks in advance for any assistance I can get.

Hi,

The tombstones should certainly give you dates of death.  When you have the death deates, you might be able to find an obituary - you could check with the St. Mary's library:

http://www.townofstmarys.com/public-library/

Or with the Perth County section of the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS)
http://www.ogs.on.ca/perth/
OGS branches often ask for small fees.

I am not sure who the Margaret, Thomas and Mary are in your last query.  Are they also in St. Mary's Ontario?  If so, they may be in the same cemetery...

The only other Woods I see that I can fit into your family are Myron, John Clifford and Barabara Marie, all born in St. Marys between 1910 and 1912.   Here is the link to the familysearch free birth records.

I think there is some information about obtaining Ontario birth and death certificates here on the Rootschat Ontario Resources thread.  I have never done it, so I am not sure of the procedure.   You will find lots of really helpful resources here.

Thanks for the info.  I have some info on Myro, John and Barbara.  I found their birth certificate and found our Barbara was married to a  Lyle Bowie Patterson.  Found his birth certificate.  Just have to locate a marriage record.  Mary, Thomas and Margaret were John Wood siblings born in Ontario.  Have some info on them.  I appreciate all your help.  If I can help you in any was just let me know.

Hi,

Glad to help :)

If Barbara and Lyle were married in Ontario, you likely won't find a record of their marriage.  I assume (from Barbara's year of birth) that the marriage would have been in the 1930s or 1940s.  These records are protected by Ontario privacy laws.   It will be several years before marriage records from that time period will be public information.

However, you might find a reference to the marriage in a local newspaper.   The local OGS branch or library may be able to help with that.

I see Lyle and Myron in the same cemetery as the rest of the family, so St. Mary's would be the first place to look for other records - and newspapers.

If you think members of your family may have lived elsewhere in Ontario, here is the list of OGS branches.
http://www.ogs.on.ca/branches/branchlocator.php

A quick google search will turn up library websites.

RK    :) :)
