Layland Family and their flats delivering corn
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 12:59 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my family history and part of this is the Layland family from Runcorn.  They had flats in which they took grain to Liverpool.  Does anyone know of a register of these flats so that I could trace these boats?  Also if anyone has any other information about flats or the Laylands especially John Layland could they let me know?

Thank you

Eilee

In the 1891 census John is a Waterman, living in Runcorn with Mary A and two young sons, Samuel and John Henry.

I found a John Layland with parents John and Hannah and siblings living in Runcorn in the 1881 census. Both John and Hannah were born in Liverpool - all males are Watermen.

In 1871 John is with his widowed grandmother Margaret Layland. She is a beer seller. Also in the household is John's uncle Thomas who is a Master, Canal Boat. Both are b Liverpool.
