I have posted several times on here about my great grand uncle Richard Waller which has turned up several results. But these were more specific searches relating to him (burial etc)
The major part of my research has now turned to the location of his paintings and I am now turning to the posters and chatters on here to seek help.
Richard Waller was born in Skipton, Yorkshire in 1811 and died in Holbeck in Yorkshire in 1882; he was mainly a portrait painter but other works are known to exist and I have made a list of about 60-70 possible paintings; some are just very vague titles; giving the name of the sitter; others are more descriptive and some that I have tracked down I have been able to acquire a image of. I have pretty much exhausted the internet as a source for information on him as I have gathered information from old newspapers in the British Library as well as being in touch with the National Portrait Gallery, galleries in Leeds, some smaller galleries and information from auction sites.
In his early career he trained for a time in Manchester where he went on to open a studio; he later spent time in London and Yorkshire where he opened studios and was even due to exhibit in the Royal Academy.
There are two important works that I would like to track down; one is "Queen Victoria in her Coronation Robes" which was displayed in Skipton shortly after her coronation (although obviously she never sat for him) the second is a painting of General Giuseppe Garibaldi
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Garibaldi which was bought shortly after the painting was exhibited in an exhibition in Leeds.
It may be that over the years that paintings have been lost, destroyed, in private hands, gone overseas the main source of my information is his obituary from 1882.
I hope anyone can help me with what has turned into a bit of a treasure hunt
