James Steele Moore
« on: Friday 06 January 12 05:14 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on the Moore family. James Steele Moore was born  3 June 1849 in Ballynoe, Antrim.  His father was William 1829-? and his mother's name was Elizabeth Steele 1829-?. He may have had a sister named Sarah or a brother named Alexander. He married Sarah Jane Sherrard [DOB 1852) in the Clifton Street Presbyterian Church in 1871. She died in 1888 in Hyde Park, Antrim. Any assistance to find the Moore family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. ****     Additional information found *** A cousin sent me  a copy of a newspaper clipping of James's funeral information. He was born in 1848 and was living in Sugar Grove, Pa. US when he died. James was survived by a sister, Sarah, living in Ireland.

Hi again KarenLiz,

Exactly two offspring of a William MOORE and an Elizabeth STEELE relationship are recorded within the 1st Donegore Baptismal Register.
[Such register having been transcribed recently by some inspirational folks in New Zealand Australia, for which we must all be very grateful!]

Alexander MOORE, Born:04-JUN-1844, Bapt:16-AUG-1844, Place:Scalbow, Minister:S S ALLISON
James MOORE, Born:03-MAY-1847, Bapt: 25-JUN-1847, Place:Ballynoe, Minister: S S ALLISON

Hmm ... doesn't quite tie up with your data on James.
[You may wish to consider the validity of its source ...]

----

A James F MOORE and an Eliza McNEILLY had the following baptised at 1st Donegore:

Jannet MOORE, Born:19-APR-1831, Bapt:12-JUN-1831, Place:Ballynoe, Minister:John Doherty
William MOORE, Born:17-JAN-1833, Bapt:08-FEB-1833, Place:Ballynoe, Minister:John Doherty
Sarah Elisa MOORE, Born:26-JUL-1849, Bapt:12-DEC-1853, Place:Ballynoe, Minister:S S Allison

There were a few other sprogging MOORE familes around ...
[e.g. William MOORE = Elizabeth COULTER who were resident at Doagh]

KarenEliz,

You might be interested in this book published in Nov 2011 ...

The Parkgate Presbyterians
People and Kirk over four centuries
The First Donegore Story
Donald Alexander

The history of the village of Parkgate in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, stretches over four centuries. Beginning with the Scottish Settlement of the of the Six Mile Water valley, it has continued through the momentous events of the 1641 Rebellion, the rising of 1798 and the upheavals of the 20th Century. From the Ulster Covenant against Home Rule to the emergence of Northern Ireland, it is the history of a people and their community.

For many generations that community has centred on the historic Presbyterian congregation known as First Donegore, and the story of the Parkgate Presbyterians is a microcosm of Ulster history from the 1600s to 2000.

Many ministers have tended First Donegore over the years, and several of them are significant figures in Irish Presbyterian history. This book tells their stories, and the stories of many members of their flocks: their travels, their battles and the impact they had on the wider world.

There are nods towards the exotic, such as Lillie Langtry, and the comic, as in that classic hoax, the Parkgate Cat Fair.

The book should appeal to those interested in the religious, political and economic development of a rural Ulster community over four centuries.
