Old photo negative
« on: Thursday 05 January 12 19:21 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I found an old negative in a collection of family photos.  It's believed to be the only image of my Great-Grandmother that anyone in the family has.  I scanned it, but beyond that I have no idea how to reverse the image so I can get a proper look at it.  I'm not tech-savvy, so am hoping some kind soul will help me out.  Many thanks to anyone who can figure it out.

You can invert an old negative by opening it in Paint, which is a Microsoft product that comes bundled with Windows. That's about all this program is good for, as it's horrible and automatically reduces a good scan to a very low-resolution one. However, if you don't have the fancy stuff like Greensleeves, at least you can invert the image to see what you've got.

Cheers,

The app I used to invert the negative was Paint.NET which can be downloaded from the internet  free of charge.  It is not terribly sophisticated so I use something more fancy  for  photo restoration/colouring,  but it is a useful piece of kit for quick clean-ups, inversions etc.

Here's my go - straightened her up a bit  ;)
She obviously loved that rose bush (at least that's what I think it is...)
Unfortunately the highlights are totally blown out and I couldn't retrieve any information from them other than what you see here :-\
