OK Busy, I've found an interactive guide on the web that looks like Word 2003 and tells you where they've hidden things (with a little video-type thingy to show you too).
Click on the Microsoft Office Button (that's the round button top-left with the multicoloured squares in ) then click Print, then click Print Preview.
If you're more familiar with an older version of Office/Word, I can post the link for you.

I am so pleased I am not the only one!    Computers are so useful - when you can pursuade them to work - I have heard of road rage but I think I suffer from "computer rage" at times - if it was lighter there would be many a time when I would like to lob it out of the window (without opening the window!)

I agree that it is totally useless to users to keep changing the way the darn things work!   I used to use microsoft word and before that Wordperfect which I loved - didn't even need to use the mouse for Wordperfect once the shortcuts were learned.

Oh well ................progress it is called.

Sue, Those shortcuts are still in there hiding.
If you look at (for instance) Word or Excel, the menus have a little underline under a letter. Hold down the ALT key (left of the spacebar) and key that letter to open the menus.
If you go to the help pages and search for "keyboard shortcuts" there is a list that you can print out as a crib sheet.
(Virtually) everything you can access using the mouse is the using shortcut keys too.

I think the F7 key still works on 2007/2010 version.
Alternatively, Click on Review on the menu ribbon, then in the left-hand box of tools (Proofing) select Spelling and Grammer

Hereis the link:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/interactive-word-2003-to-word-2007-command-reference-guide-HA010074432.aspx
Click on where it says "start the guide", which will then open in a new window (well it does on my PC using IE8 browser). On the Welcome screen that comes up, click the Start button.
The subsequent screen will look like Word 2003 (and therefore most of the versions just before that).
Hover over any button you want to know wher to find in 2007/2010, or if it it is a menu item you want to find, they open as normal, then just hover over the final command you're looking for.
In both instances, hovering will reveal a writen instruction, whilst clicking on that button/menu item will show a simulation of you navigating there in 2007/2010.
Hope this makes sense. If not, just shout or PM.
Good luck.
