« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 10:54 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me find the death of my great great grandfather please. His name is Abraham Varley and he was born about 1834 in Yorkshire. His wife was called Elizabeth and they lived in Salford, I can only find him on the cenus up till the 1871 cenus. On the cenus after that his wife still states that she is married but Abraham is not on the cenus. So can anyone help. Thanks. Sheila

The one I have found the death for is on 1891, just before his death at RG 12 3362 19 31

He is a cotton dresser, bn Harden Yorkshire,
with wife Maria and 14 yr dtr Isabella (bn Bradford)

does that seem like it might be yours? (bearing in mind, if it is, then Maria is not actually his wife!)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

This one is still with MAria (and other children) in 1881
RG11 4461 21 33
now bn Bingley Yorkshire

There are others around - maybe you have not got the right birth for 'your' one, but got the birth for this one instead?

No - clearly 2 different people in 1871!

This one, and then your one (bn Keighley) with wife ELizabeth.
Unless he was living a double life and was enumerated twice - once with each 'wife' !!

But at least that Burnley death is ruled out.

I wonder if this is a clue to when he died.

In 1881 Elizabeth is head of the house living with her children. Described as married.

In 1891 she is with her daughter Sarah and son in law William Robinson still described as married.

In 1901 it looks as if she is a servant in the Hayes household described as a widow.

Hi
Something that might be of interest to you is that there seems to be 2 wills for Abraham Varley.
There is a death in 1906 in Holbeck Yorks but there are wills listed for Lancashire and Yorkshire. I don't have access to these.

I think that my great-grandmother Grace nee VARLEY was a sister of Abraham VARLEY .  She was born Hebden Bridge (Yorkshire) around 1826/1827 ; got married in Ashton-under-Lyne although I am fairly sure she was living at 6 Coronation Street , Salford at the time ; and lived all her married life in Salford where she died in February 1900 .  How is Ethel HALL nee VARLEY related to you ?
