CAMERON/HIGGINS CONNECTION
« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 10:49 GMT (UK) »
In STILL fathoming my nan's story, I have a new conundrum. Mother, Matilda Kelso married Father David Higgins in Greenock. They had their children between moving from Greenock to Chesire and back again. David disappears from the 1901 census & his brother Andrew becomes the new head of family. THEN in 1911 there is a William Cameron who had been visiting/living with the family in 1901 census and he becomes the new head of the family! They have 2 more girls.
William was listed as being a relative in the 1901 census and I cant work out in which way he was actually related (he did live in Greenock as well originally). My nan obviously took on Williams name as we knew her as Ellen Cameron! Can't find a marriage certificate between them and yet Matilda is now listed as a Cameron in 1911.
Can anyone help ?? Totally confused STILL. :-X :D

Hi Wiggo

Sorry lots of questions.......

Where were these census returns taken - Greenock or Cheshire?

When and where did Matilda die? If Scotland her death cert may give some clues as to her marital status but I can't find a death cert for her under any of her 3 names. Was she known as Matilda or a variant e.g. Tilly, Matty?

I can't find a marriage in Scotland for her and William but if they were toing and froing if she did marry William would it have been in Scotland or Cheshire?

Do you have a death record for David?

Hello.

I was wandering the interwebs, which I normally do when I'm bored. So, I typed Higgins & Greenock together in the search and found this. This quite intrigues me as my recent family is from Greenock and our surname is Higgins.
I, myself, have limited knowledge of my family tree, so I may return when I've received such information and maybe an answer to your plea.
