Hi,

I suspect North Hykeham will be shown as either Lincoln or Lincolnshire.  I can't access the census but https://www.familysearch.org/ comes up with this.  No help I'm afraid unless you can find him in earlier censuses with other family members!

Thank you both.

I have the census returns, his marriage in Quorndon, Leics and the birth there in 1802 of his son, also Richard. At least one of the census returns gives his birthplace as North Haycomb, Lincs but since there is no such place we had assumed it to be North Hykeham. Either we were wrong or his age on the census returns is incorrect, for, thanks to your help I have been able to check PRs for 18772, 73 and 74 but without success. I shall keep sarching the years either side in the hope of finding him.

Thanks again for your help.

Keith

Geoff,

Someone who knows the area has sugggested that Richard might have been christened at Lincoln. I have signed into the Lincolnshire museum site but I'm not finding what I need. Please would you be so kind as to send me a link to the Lincoln birth PRs?

Regards,

Keith

If you look at 1851 census, you'll see birthplace given as Trusley Derbyshire, which seems to match well enough with this baptism http://tinyurl.com/7ou7gx4

1851 gives the birthplace of Grace (his later wife) as North Wickem(?) Lincs. :)

There's no need to register with the Lincs website, not that you need it now anyway. ;)
