Hi.
I have a marriage certificate for William Henry John & Lilian Margaret Jones July 1940. having trouble with the father as the only info I have is William John John. Labourer of Dany Craig. Swansea. the conflict is on the 1911 census the family name show as Johns. b1883 Painter of Swansea his wife is Ethel and they have been married 8 years. they have 4 children

Hi Auzzy,
Do you have William Henry John's birth certificate?  If not, would be worth getting as it will confirm his mother's full name and help with pinning down his parent's marriage.  Have you looked at the original image on the 1911 census to check that the surname does appear to be written as Johns, rather than just on the transcript?  Are they at an address in 1911 that you know is linked to the family?

There are Cornwall/Dublin JOHNS in my OH's side
They regularly appeared through UK census returns with and without the "s"; if everything else looks rights I'd accept them as correct

It was as if one person could be William JOHN but when referring to his family they become the JOHNS.
