Hello, a little mystery which I hope some RootsChatter can help me solve:-
Looking a our Dad`s WW1 medals yesterday, my sister and I found a ribbon which we can not identify. There is a medal (1914 star) which has another soldier`s name on the back . There is no ribbon attached . The length of loose ribbon is white in the centre and red then blue at the edges. The same colours as the ribbon which would go with the 1914 star but not the same order of stripes.
Dad was in from Sept 1916 and was wounded, captured and was a prisoner of war. He was repatriated March 1919.
We wondered if the ribbon was anything to do with those events.
Also the ribbon from the Victory medal is striped in red, yellow, green, blue and purple. On the medal the colours are somewhat wavy but on the bar they are straight. Is this just the weave or does it have some other significance?
Any info much appreciated and thanks in advance.Viktoria.
