CF Wood of Relugas
« on: Tuesday 27 December 11 17:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone know anything about Mr C F Wood who lived at Relugas House at Edinkillie in Moray Scotland in the late 1870s? I can't track him down anywhere and would be really grateful for any info at all.

Thanks,

Nanse

Hi Nanse

What else do you have on Mr C F Wood?

A little here on Relugas House, Edinkillie, around the period you are looking at www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,517070.0.html

Monica  :)

Added: The 1881 census shows a Little family headed up by an Andrew Little, forester, living at Relugas House.

Hello Monica. I have absolutely nothing on him, except that he was there in1877. He would have been a wealthy man who either owned the estate or was visiting the owner.
Mr Little would have been an employee of the estate at that time.
Thanks, Nanse

I understand that (history here on Relugas House and ownership www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/gardens_search_results.htm/gardenssearchmoreinfo.htm?s=&r=&bool=0&PageID=2139&more_info=Site).

One year, 1877, is hard to determine for your Mr C F Wood  :-\

Ghostwhiperer, that looks a great intro to trying to solve who this C F Wood Esq. may have been  :)

With your clues, Ghostwhiperer, wonder if this is the same C F Wood Esq. mentioned here www.rootschat.com/links/0j1e/ (link shrunk from the Bristish Museum site).

From this other Bristish Museum link, www.rootschat.com/links/0j1f/ -

Acquisition notes
Charles. F. Wood donated artefacts to the British Museum in 1872, 1874 and 1875, which he seems to have collected on voyages in the Pacific islands from the late 1860s. He documented his 1873 voyage in his book 'A Yatching Cruise in the South Seas' (1875). Old label reads: Pres. by C. F. Wood, Esq. 16.2.72 Registration slip reads: Obtained by the donor at Onuna Bay

Thank you very much everyone for your help. Turns out I've been barking up the wrong tree and the Mr Wood I'm looking for doesn't have a F as an initial after all. Unfortunately he's much more lowly than the gentleman you've found. Mystery solved!  Nanse

Good that you found the correct Mr Wood  :)

I managed to find the book on line for 'A Yatching Cruise in the South Seas' (1875) and read some pages on that yesterday for the other Mr Wood! Certainly I would say that the MI that Ghostwhisperer found for 'Tom'/Kopuri in 1877 at Relugas House would connect to that C F Wood.

Thankyou all for looking for Tom and Mr Wood. The grave was an interesting find. I have come across slave graves but Tom is apparently not a slave. I came across him quite by chance while photographing war graves.
