I am looking for details on my great…aunts third husband Philip Matthews Beard who was a schoolmaster at St. Peter Port, Guernsey in the mid to later half of the 19th century. Philip was born circa 1800 in Worcester, England and I found the following online which I think may apply:
SOMERSET ARCHIVE AND RECORDS SERVICE
SOMERSET RECORD OFFICE
Accession No: G/2426; G/2440
Group Code: DD/AY
150/1-7 1803-1849 Taunton
Three cottages containing five dwellings, two of which are called the Middle Houses, bounded on the south by St James Street and adjoining the churchyard of St James, part of the Manor of Taunton late Priory. The earliest deed is a declaration of trusts by John Rowswell of Taunton St James in favour of his wife Hannah from whom he was separated, 1803. She passed the property to her brother Matthew Hillyard Gannett in trust to pay her a weekly sum of 4/- and a similar sum of 3/- to Richard Gannett, another brother, 1809. In 1843 the property was purchased by Philip Matthew Beard of Taunton St James, schoolmaster, and in 1849 he executed a settlement to repay his wife the money she had lent him to do so. Between 1843 and 1849 he had "for the convenience of his school pulled down part of the messuages and erected a dwelling house".
I was hoping you may kindly check for me the 1851 census for Taunton to see if there is any mention of a Philip Beard?
I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
