Cox - Wandsworth
« on: Thursday 22 December 11 18:59 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for help with tracing my grandfather's family. His name was James Sidney Cox, born Apr 1915 in Wandsworth.
I do not know his mother or father's names and so do not know where to start! Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi laineybug
The birth registration for James S Cox in Wandsworth Apr-Jun 1915 gives the mother's maiden surname as Coventry.

Other Cox births in Wandsworth around this time, with mother Coventry, are:
Edward C Cox 1918 and Dorothy M Cox 1912 and Emily G Cox 1913.

Do you know if your grandfather had brothers/sisters with these names?

Dazey

You are going to need a copy of James Sidney's birth cert but bear this 1901 entry for London St George in mind in case his parents are Edward and Charlotte

Edward J Cox 31 b Westminster  dock porter
Charlotte 24 b Pimlico
Arthur J 2 b Pimlico

Thanks for the info so far - will have to dig out his birth certificate (sure i have it somewhere). The name Coventry definitely rings a bell, but as for his siblings - I know he had loads (no idea of exact number) but they all had nicknames, which doesn't help!

It's his parents names that are the most important as that info will determine if it's the right 1901 entry

I have Cox in Wandsworth from at least 1851, and James and Sidney are both common names in the family.  If you find your line connects to the family shown below, I would be glad to share what I have.
