St. Katherine's is indeed in Blackrod, a couple of miles across the valley to the southwest. It was originally a chapel-of-ease of St. Peter's in Bolton. Quite a few people did not like trailing all the way to Bolton for weddings, so went west to St. Wilfrid's at Standish. Some ignored St. Katherine's completely.
Nonconformists from Blackrod would use the various chapels in Horwich.
Unfortunately St. Katherine's old churchyard has been grassed over, with only a few stones now visible.
