Tracking Ireland to Liverpool move
« on: Sunday 18 December 11 19:08 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for some advice to find a family that moved from somewhere in Ireland to Liverpool between 1839ish and 1841.

The furthest back I have been able to find was their listing in the 1841 census of Liverpool.  Their 2 year old son Richard was noted as being born in Ireland so I can only assume they moved between 1839 and 1841.  Specifically my goals are to learn the wife's maiden name and what part of Ireland they came from so I can continue with my research.

I have tried a few of the free Irish birth searches (such as familysearch) and could find no further information using Richard's bio.  A marriage search on James Tate and Mary in Ireland was also fairly useless without more information on her.

Any advice is appreciated!  I hate these seemingly impossible road blocks.

Hi,

I notice they were living at 28 Ormond Street in the 1841 census.  This is an interesting marriage in the August 1841  :o :

9th August, 1841
St Pauls, Liverpool
James Tate, full age, Bachelor, Warehouseman, 28 Ormond Street, father Richard Tate Farmer
Mary Greenall, full age, Spinster, 28 Ormond Street, father Richard Greenall Brewer.
He signed and she made her mark.
Witnesses were William Wilson and Ellen Munday
Great minds think alike Heywood  ;D

I see young Richard is listed as being born in Liverpool on the 1851 census.

Regards,
Mo

Hi Mo,

yes they were at that address in 1841 - living with the Mundays.

Dxbudgie - 1851 shows 3 daughters too -(presume you have these) born in Liverpool. You could also get the mother's name from their certificates.

I think this may be Richard.  In later censuses he is born Liverpool.

Wow I was on the completely wrong track of thought with their marriage.  Yes Richard was listed as being born in Ireland one year and Liverpool after that.  I wasn't really sure which to go with.

Thank you so much for the help I have some information to work with now.

Also can I ask where you were able to find the details of the marriage?  The only source I know of is the BMD index so it would be helpful to know where I could get those details :)
