When EDMOND FOLEY, Labourer of Dimboola died intestate in 1918, his wife ELLEN was granted probate.

He lists his children in the documents which include EDMUND FOLEY of Liverpool, Sydney NSW, COAL MINER

When ELLEN FOLEY died in 1922 she left  a will which favoured her daughter ESTHER ELLEN ( married MORETON)

The birth of this girl gives us the maiden name for ELLEN

FOLEY Esther Ellen
Father Edward
Mother ELLEN HEFFERSON
Birth Place DIMBOOLA
Year 1890

In Victoria between 1870 and 1890 ELLEN and EDWARD/EDMOND had a number of children.

Her maiden name usually appears EFFERSON

This is perhaps the marriage

FOLEY Edward
EFFERSON Ellen
His Birth Place WATERFORD
Year 1870
Reg Number 3901

This might be EDWARD/EDMOND's birth :D

FOLEY  Edward
Father Edward
Mother Ellen EFFERSON
Birth Place ARARAT
Year 1874
Reg Number 20458

Hi,

An 1862 Victorian Government Gazette on page 1991 has a list of shareholders of the Grand Junction Gold Mining Company at Bunkers Hill near Ballarat.  In the list is an Edmond Foley of Bukers Hill holding 1 share (many others held 1 share as well).  If this was your Edmond it puts him at Bunkers hill in 1862.

Regards
Gerry

For your interest JARO.

A girl named MARIA DAY (nee EFFERSON) was having children in very much the same region as ELLEN FOLEY (nee EFFERSON) and I think she was probably her sister. The marriages show the women were both born in TAS.

I have not yet been ablr to establish parents of the two.
MARIA’s husband was THOMAS LEONARD DAY. (The second given name appears not on the marriage but on some births and deaths of their children),

I think there is a strong possibility that EDMUND and his wife JANE DAY were cousins. Their marriage  took place in ARARAT, where JEAN/JANE was born according to the marriage index.

MARIA’s marriage took place at ARARAT where THOMAS LEONARD  and MARIA (EFFERSON) had many children including SARAH JANE (see below for marriage) The name LEONARD has reappeared in the naming of EDWARD and JANE’s children.

This is perhaps the death of EDMUND jnr’s wife JEAN/JANE in NSW
