I have a Home Office "aliens at large in the UK" card file for my Greatgrandfather. It states that he was born in Hamburg 21-04-1850 and that he was exempt from internment until further notice. This was in 1939; when he was 89 years old!!!
I have written to almost every church in Hamburg and not one of them say that they have any records but that they were either burnt in bombing raids or are now in the State Archive. The State Archive tell me that the records for the period I am researching, 1830-1860 are to be found in the church archives!!!!!
I have noticed that the LDS records for Germany, something like 30 million+ , have only approx 790 for Hamburg births, none for marriages and none for deaths.
Can anyone please suggest where I can look now?
