Epson printer - sudden problem. Completed, thank you.
« on: Tuesday 13 December 11 10:01 GMT (UK) »
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R320 and have been using the same compatible cartridges for years but the printer has suddenly decided it doesn't like them.  Is there anything I can do other than give in and buy Epson cartridges?

Have you tried cleaning the jets?
My OH sometimes uses non-Epson inks but often has problems with them.
He says Epson make by far the best colour inks for 'ordinary' printers and he likes them best for printing on canvas particularly.

Never had a problem with them before Dawn.  Can't clean the nozzles or the heads as I'm told the printer is not recognising the cartridges despiting them printing up until last night.

Well I only know what OH tells me about his printer problems.
Not sure what model his is (he's told me often enough, but...) but it prints to A3 size, and he prints photos on it.
I'll try to remember to ask him tomorrow or Thursday when I see him.
Are these new cartridges?  If so, are you sure they are properly in place?  If they aren't new ones, it sounds like something's gone wrong in the electronics, doesn't it.

Bye for now

Thanks for that Japeflakes and I have tried cleaning the print heads and the green chips.  Now, instead of saying that all the cartridges are not recognised, it's only the magenta cartridge, which was the one I was replacing when all this started.  I opened another magenta cartridge in case the first replacement was duff, but I'm getting the same message.

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy originals.

Shame that.....

Nothing on the contacts or.....

"Have you tried switching it off, waiting, and then on again?"

Other than that, think you will have to go to the shop.... HOPE it works then....

Most reputable suppliers selling printer supplies sell with a guarantee.
(I use compatible inks in my Epson SX400 all in one)
Only once did I have to have one exchanged (Staples), no problem getting exchanged.

True, but as 2 cartridges do not work me thinks it might be the printer. Are the cartridges old stock?
