Possible birth for Jane?
Jane Hewitt Edgar July/Sept.1902 Monaghan registration district, volume 3 page 193

and did Samuel have a middle name?

Edit: Although that sounds like it must be my gran, I just remembered that my mum thinks her name was Jane Elizabeth Edgar. Mind you, this is from a woman who calls herself Jean Elizabeth, yet on her birth certificate she is Jane Eliza! Makes it very difficult to track these people. Many thanks though for looking.

I don't know about gran's brother Samuel having a middle name. I know that he died in about 1947 (according to my mum) and had become a Quaker.

It is interesting that the name of Jane's parents aren't easy to find. This family has been a bit of a brick wall and shrouded in mystery. Now I have Jane's birth date and details I will send of for her birth cert and see if that throws up any more facts.

Jane married my grandfather Edward Mullen (b 1888  in LA, Ca but moved back to Elphin, Roscommon after a few weeks) and I suppose this would have been just after WW1. Don't know where they would have been married (or indeed if they actually DID get married). He was RC and she was C of I but it seemed the family followed a C of I path. Lots of 'brick walls' in this story.

Many thanks again for all the information so far. I'll keep digging.  :)

Just for reference here's a bit about Samuel Wesley Edgar (killed WWI)-

Marriage of Alicia Jane (Reid) Edgar of Flush Cottage-

Best of all, here's a bit more about your Edgar family (put 'wesley' into search box at top of page and then scroll up a bit for start of article to find them)- mentions James Edgar of Flush Cottage (listed in brother Samuel's Will), etc.-

Hi. Thanks for the links.

I got this information about the family tree from this Edgar newsletter where it says that there is a "rogue" family in the Monaghan area. I requested it. There are no apparent links with this main Edgar family and my family, even though many of the names are shared. Again, it's one of those 'brick walls'.

NO. Emily died 1907 in Ireland- see reply #2 for Will Extract which lists date of death. See also family tree attachment (reply #13) which also lists date of death as 1907.
