Hi all,

I ordered a William & Ellen marriage cert today to confirm I/we are on the right trail. Expect delivery in about 14 days.
If ok I will try and get a death cert for Ellen, burial date ok but unsure of death date. Trying to contact the stone mason who may have records that he could check.
Thanks Janette for the photo of the plaque and to all others.

Cheers

Hi Costar,
The date on the headstone is the date of death, this can be got by narrowing the date down on BDM's

17/7/1973
https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/

Lu posted the date
Hi Costar

This is probably her burial ?

Ellen Sophia MILLER

Died :   17 July 1973 - aged 84 years  (bc 1889)

There's a photo of her headstone also.

I'm not sure whether the Timaru authorities can help with further information re: funeral director or next-of-kin ... but it might be worthwhile emailing them to find out.

Hi All,

Thanks for the  quick work by the Wellington BMD office, I received the Marriage cert of William Miller & Ellen Sophia Treseder today the 29th Dec. Sophia's mothers maiden name looks like Hockin, so I am going to order the death cert for Ellen, which should give me the details of husbands & parents names. I have also made contact with the monumental stonemason who has kindly given me a name that I can contact for further info.
So a good start for the new year.

Cheers to all

Costar

sorry to send you a reply to your question about Hoffman?Kiddies this way but the system will not allow me to reply to personal messages. I am afraid I do not have any Kiddies in my tree at the moment but will let you know if I come across any. Was interested to note however that we have the same surname, which is also a family name that I am researching for my husband.

Hi Elaine,

Welcome to Rootschat.    You need two more posts before you can activate the Personal Message system, so if you reply twice more to this message ..... with a Hello, then a smiley

Hi,
My Russells are from Glasgow and married to Westwoods from Dundee.
We originally came from Ireland away back in the mid 1800s and married to Coffeys.
Cheers

Hello paallo90

  ... welcome to RootsChat.   :)

You say you are wanting to find out more about "the MILLER" (presumably MILLER family).

Yes, Sophia (aka Ellen Sophia) had a sister named Rena Tui, but she (the sister), didn't have the surname, MILLER.

Hi paallo90

As mentioned earlier in this thread, there are a couple of family trees at the ancestry.com website for the TRESEDER surname.

The father of Rena Tui TRESEDER is said to have been born in Australia, and the mother Ellen Jane MARTIN, in Southland, NZ - her parents names are not given.

--------------------

It doesn't necessarily follow though that just because the child was given a "Maori" name, that she had Maori ancestry.    The Christian name "Tui" was a popular name for both NZ-born girls and boys, especially from around the 1890's ... "Huia" was another one.   [I have a number of both these names in my various non-Maori families ].
The name "Rena" comes from a variety of cultures.    [The usual spelling of the Maori variant appears to be "Rina" ].
